Sustainable materials

Think! shoes are 100% made in Europe. The materials for our shoes also come from European suppliers who guarantee fair working conditions and high quality standards.

For all those who value the best materials.

Think! shoes are made 100% in Europe – in cooperation with long-standing, selected and audited partners who agree to comply with our Code of Conduct. All of the materials are sourced 100% from European suppliers. This means: fair working hours and wages, safe and healthy working conditions, short transport distances, maximum quality standards and guarantees, which in turn guarantees a carbon footprint that is as low as possible and maximum transparency, because we take responsibility for people and nature.

Sustainable raw materials

When we choose the materials for our shoes, we always focus on natural, sustainable raw materials. Whether the leathers, the soles, the lining or the insoles and trims: the materials we use are treated and processed as sensitively as possible. Think! also pays attention to ensuring that as few harmful substances as possible are left over when the shoes are finally incinerated for heat recovery purposes.

Our leather

Leather has already captivated people with its timeless elegance and versatility for thousands of years. Leather is not just a material but a piece of nature that tells stories. For us at Think!, leather is the most important raw material for the manufacture of our footwear. The leathers used by Think! are a food industry by-product and therefore contribute to making full use of all resources. Thanks to its special properties such as permanent suppleness and the ability to absorb moisture, leather ensures an unparalleled foot climate.

Leather finishing

All of our decisions are based on sustainability and carefulness. This also applies to the decision of how we process our leather. Leather can be tanned in various ways – with natural or synthetic tanning agents. Think! tans most of the leather for the shoe linings and uppers chrome-free, which is expensive and more laborious, but meets our high sustainability standards. Our tanneries in Italy and Germany adhere to the strictest environmental regulations, which is particularly important, as the tanning process consumes a lot of water. We also ensure that this is free from toxins or harmful chemicals when it is reintroduced into the ecosystem.

Strict controls

Conventional shoes often contain contact allergens such as nickel, fragrances and chrome. Think! has defined its own standards in this respect and applies considerably stricter threshold value requirements than those demanded by the law or quality seals. We also check the leathers for harmful substances that are not subject to any regulations. In cooperation with scientific institutes, Think! has therefore determined further threshold values for heavy metals, chlorinated phenols and preservatives in addition to chrome. The leathers we use are tested using ISO test methods. A visual defining brand characteristic of our shoes is the wide range of extremely varied designs. We only use safe, non-toxic dyes for our leathers.

Lining materials

On Think! shoes, everything that comes into direct contact with the skin must be breathable and free from harmful substances. We therefore primarily use chrome-free tanned leather as a lining material. For winter designs, we also use chrome-free lambskin, virgin wool or loden made by the long-established Austrian manufacturer Steiner. Loden is also made from 100% virgin wool, ensures a comfortable foot climate, has thermal properties and is durable - making it the perfect, durable and sustainable material for durable and sustainable shoes.

A green flower pictograph inside a Think! shoe instantly indicates that the leather – on the inside as well as the outside – has been tanned completely chrome-free. The tanning process is carried out exclusively in Europe – in Germany and Italy – and is monitored at regular intervals. This results in sustainable high-quality shoes with a unique character and exceptional wear comfort.

Shoelaces with red end caps - Accessories for Think! shoes

Sustainable shoelaces

Our sustainability efforts focus on even the smallest detail and beyond. Our shoelaces are therefore also made from 100% cotton. Even the typical red Think! tips are not made of plastic but of natural cellulose. They add that certain something to our unique Think! shoes, and are a visible reference to our Think! philosophy: always going your own way, and making a stand against short-lived trends.

Interchangeable cork footbeds

Our top priority is to use natural materials wherever possible. That is why we equip our Think! shoes with cork footbeds, as cork absorbs moisture and transports it away from the body – which keeps your feet dry all day long. Furthermore, we also always ensure that our footbeds are removable and can be replaced with custom orthotics so they precisely meet the needs of their wearers at all times, because our feet deserve the best, with every step and every day.

Durable soles from Think! - Robust and non-slip shoe sole for optimum comfort and durability

Durable shoes

Think! soles must be flexible, lightweight, durable and, on winter designs, non-slip and thermal. We also want Think! shoes to last for a long time. This means: when the soles have become worn down, they can easily be replaced. Always finding the perfect sole material and the optimum shape for our many different Think! shoe types is one of the most important jobs and our product development department's most exciting challenge, as the Think! soles for each design in the Think! collection are developed in Kopfing especially for this particular design. They are a main feature of all of our footwear for men and women. The materials we use are rubber or a mix of rubber and EVA, PU and also, increasingly often, certified natural latex - all "made in Europe", of course.
