Home remedy check: nail polish remover & co. for clean sneakers
You're in a hurry, and you don't a have a special cleaning product at hand? We have tested some home remedies, and summarised our recommendations for you:
✓ Acetone free nail polish remover: No problem on the soles - use acetone free nail polish remover to remove stubborn scratches on white soles. However, it should only be used on the soles of leather shoes.
✓ White toothpaste or baking powder: Toothpaste or baking powder mixed with a little water also makes a great stain remover for white soles. Simply apply the mixture to the stains using circular motions, wait a little while, and then rinse it off with cold water. However, be careful when applying this mixture to leather! It's a good idea to try it out on a small area first to ensure that it won't discolour the leather or have a similar unwanted effect.
x Washing up liquid, shampoo & scrubs: Avoid these home remedies. They damage the leather, dry it out and will gradually make it crack.
x Leather grease: Unfortunately, this is also a myth; leather shoes should not be greased. Grease can leave smears or a grey film on the shoes. Leather grease also clogs the pores, and therefore has a negative impact on the leather's natural breathability.
