Home remedy check: nail polish remover & co. for clean sneakers
You're in a hurry, and you don't a have a special cleaning product at hand? We have tested some home remedies, and summarised our recommendations for you:
âś“ Acetone free nail polish remover: No problem on the soles - use acetone free nail polish remover to remove stubborn scratches on white soles. However, it should only be used on the soles of leather shoes.
âś“ White toothpaste or baking powder: Toothpaste or baking powder mixed with a little water also makes a great stain remover for white soles. Simply apply the mixture to the stains using circular motions, wait a little while, and then rinse it off with cold water. However, be careful when applying this mixture to leather! It's a good idea to try it out on a small area first to ensure that it won't discolour the leather or have a similar unwanted effect.
x Washing up liquid, shampoo & scrubs: Avoid these home remedies. They damage the leather, dry it out and will gradually make it crack.
x Leather grease: Unfortunately, this is also a myth; leather shoes should not be greased. Grease can leave smears or a grey film on the shoes. Leather grease also clogs the pores, and therefore has a negative impact on the leather's natural breathability.
